When I retired I was working as a research scientist for a large multi-national company. I had worked for this company for over 20 years on a variety of research projects. I soon realised that I needed some new challenges, some things to keep my brain active and to keep me learning. So I have set myself some challenges:

  1. Build a Software Defined Radio – initially build a receiver for one of the amateur bands. I have a long dormant amateur radio licence (G0FGZ); it will be good to return to this now that I have the time.
  2. Learn about measure theory – initially I plan to work through the book “An Introduction to Measure Theory” by Terence Tao. I am not a mathematician, so I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this one.
  3. Learn about lattice encryption schemes – a friend pointed me in this direction. I don’t have even an idea about this one yet.

I will use this blog to record my progress. In the past when working on something new I have always kept my initial thoughts to myself and not presented results until I was sure that they made sense. Writing this blog will be quite a change for me.

As time goes on I may add other things to this list, or take things off!
